This is an update on in-office procedures that are offered or will soon be offered at Associates in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Although they can still be performed in the hospital, with proper patient selection and with oral and local pain management, they can be performed safely and comfortably in an office setting.

HYSTEROSCOPY

A thin telescope-like device is inserted into the uterus through the cervix to help diagnose abnormal uterine bleeding, remove tissue and/or abnormal growth.  Recovery usually involves a small amount of vaginal bleeding and uterine cramps.

ESSURE

This is a permanent birth control method where small spring-like coils are placed via hysteroscopy into the openings where the fallopian tubes enter the uterus.  There are a few contraindications along with a few complications that need to be discussed with your doctor.  This procedure does require that a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) be performed 3 months after placement to confirm complete blockage of the fallopain tubes.  Another form of birth control must be used until the HSG is performed.  The Essure can also be done with oral and local analgesia in the office.

THERMACHOICE UTERINE ABLATION

This procedure is for women with heavy menstrual flow.  It involves placing, in the uterus, a catheter with a small balloon on the end, filling the balloon with sterile fluid and heating this fluid to a high temperature.  This reseults in neutralized endometrial tissue with decreased symptoms in a large percentage of patients.  The procedure is tolerated well with vaginal discharge for 7 -10 days with some cramping for several days.

LEEP

This is an acronymn for Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure.  This procedure is performed to remove abnormal cervical tissue to further diagnose and/or treat cervical tissue abnormalities.  Local anesthesia is injected into the cervix before the LEEP is performed.  It is tolerated well, with some post procedure cramping, vaginal discharge and spotting.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL
